2016-2017 League information
Welcome to the 12th season of our Buffalo, NY indoor KanJam league! This is a random draw KanJam league where each player is randomly paired with a different partner each week. This helps to keep matchups interesting and exciting! The goal will be to have a different partner every week. Newcomers to KanJam may be able to pair up with their own registered partner for the first week before joining the random draw. Because there is a limited amount of space within the gym we play in, this is mostly an invitational only league, as there wouldn't be room for others to join unless someone else drops out.
Our league usually meets on scheduled Saturday evenings from 7:30 pm until 10:00 pm (there are two exceptions to the time - please see entire schedule).
Since the schedule of games is based on the total number of players, we ask that all players please arrive no later than 7:30 pm. During warm-up and practice, the random draw for teams will be done once everyone has arrived, or by 7:45 pm, whichever comes first.
You should plan on missing the week if you know you cannot make it by 7:45 pm. This will be the absolute latest cutoff, as league play will have started by then. We are unable to delay it any further due to the size of the league and the limited amount of time for all teams to complete their games.
- 7:00 - 7:15: KanJam sets assembled, courts set up / music set up
- 7:15 - 7:30: Practice for those arriving early
- 7:30 - 7:45: Draw teams for random format / pair up, practice
- 7:45 - 9:50: League play
- 9:50 - 10:00: Clean-up, tie-breakers (if time permits), photos for winners, prizes given
The cost to join the league will be just $25 per player for the entire 11-week season! This includes a new KanJam League T-shirt for each player! These shirts will be ordered at the beginning of the season and will be available for everyone mid-season.
The registration fee will be due by Week 2 (Saturday, December 3rd, 2016) so we can order the shirts. The sooner everyone is paid, the quicker we can get the league shirts done. All players will need to complete the short Sign-Up Now form in Team App, which allows the option to pay for their league fee in advance. Those that do not wish to pay in advance can pay by cash, check, or money order at league. Any checks/money orders for league payments can be made payable to “Kan Jam League.”
All players must be registered in pairs. As a player, you will be responsible for who you register with. If your partner cannot make it, a substitute player is required to keep numbers even, otherwise you will be unable to play that week. You will need to communicate with your "registered partner" to ensure you are both coming each week. If either yourself or your registered partner cannot make it, then you will both be responsible for communicating with the league via Team App to see if someone else is short or get a sub to fill in.
Team App League Communication
All league communication and news updates is done through Team App, which is an app and website specifically designed for sports teams. EVERY INDIVIDUAL PLAYER must set up a free account on Team App in order to participate in our league, as it is used to RSVP for each week. If you are already a member in Team App, there is no need to set this up again.
If you do not have a smartphone or tablet with the Apple App Store or Google Play marketplace (Android), there is still a website version of Team App that works very similar (including on mobile browsers) and can be bookmarked for easy access.
It only takes a few minutes to get this set up. All that is needed is an email address to get started. Please be sure to remember your password once it has been set up, as we will not have access to that information. Once you are signed-in on the app, it will remember it for you and you will not need to sign-in again.
To get started, please follow these instructions:
- Download the free app, Team App using one of the links below:
This is a 100% free app, so go ahead and get it!
- Open the app and click Sign Up.
- On the next page, please fill out the form with your basic information (Name, email, password, etc). Click Submit (top right).
- You will receive a popup asking you to check your email to finalize registration. Just go to your email and click on the Confirm Registration button.
- You will get an Account Activated message. Go back to the Team App app.
- In the app, click on the Log In button.
- Enter your email address and password to log in.
- From the search bar, type "KanJam League." Once you have located our app, click on it.
- You will receive a message "You are not in any access groups and currently have public access only. Go to settings to request more access." Click on Settings (top right).
- It will be important to keep the Notifications on, otherwise you will miss important league updates! Click on Access Groups.
- Select 2016-2017 Buffalo League and type a short reason in the box below (You can just put "joining league" or something like that. It's required for some reason).
- Click Request.
WEBSITE (for those without a smartphone or tablet):
- Go to kanjamleague.teamapp.com
- Click Sign Up (in the Restricted Access box).
- On the next page, please fill out the form with your basic information (Name, email, password, etc). Click Submit.
- After submitting the form, you will receive an automated email from Team App with instructions for activating your account. Just go to your email and click on the Confirm Registration button.
- You will get an Account Activated message. Go to teamapp.com and click Log In (top right corner).
- Enter your email address and password to log in.
- Once you are logged in, go back to kanjamleague.teamapp.com
- In the Restricted Access box, click Join.
- For Access Groups, check the box for 2016-2017 Buffalo League and type a short reason in the box below (You can just put "joining league" or something like that. It's required for some reason).
- In the section below, make sure to enter your cell phone number.
- Click Join.
Once this has been submitted, we will receive a notification and manually approve your membership in the KanJam League Team App page/app. As an approved player, you will then receive a notification indicating that you now have access to logging in to the KanJam League Team App page/app.
Also, in the app, there is an option from the Settings menu to click "Install to Home Screen" to create a direct App Icon for KanJam League Team App.
RSVP via Team App
The RSVP section is the most important area of Team App. This will be where everyone will put down if they are coming to league each week. Every single player will need to RSVP for each week, even if they cannot make it. If you were to show up to league without entering a status, you will simply not be able to play, as you will not have been accounted for ahead of time.
A reminder will be sent out automatically three days before each league night. This will be sent as a notification alert on your device and also as an email. After confirming with your partner, make sure each of you go to this section and click the RSVP button, even if you cannot make it. There is a YES, NO, and MAYBE button. Please, please do NOT use the MAYBE button, we will not be using this. If we could disable it we would, but that option is not available within Team App. If you are unsure if you can make it, wait until you are and then put either YES or NO for your attendance.
We will monitor this page as much as possible. For example, say that Scott & Dana are registered partners. They both confirmed with each other ahead of time that they will be coming for Week 1. Both players have logged in and clicked YES for RSVP. Once we see both players confirmed YES, we will update the list of registered pairs for that specific week in the event description.
To avoid being left out of league play, just make sure you are entering your status each week and ensuring that your partner has someone else to register with for weeks you cannot make. In other words, we will not be matching people up week by week or finding subs for you. You are responsible for registering with someone else if your partner is out or finding your own sub.
Subs & Chat
If you need a sub (your registered partner cannot make it), you have three options: register with someone else whose partner is out for that week, register with one of the subs within Team App, or find your own sub.
Register with someone else from league - The best option is to contact the entire league in Team App through that week's chat room to see if anyone else's partner cannot make it. A chat room for that specific week will have already been created, so anyone can post in here (it will be labeled "Week 1," for example). A notification will go out to all league members for this season, but if you and your registered partner have already confirmed, you have the option to opt out just from this chat room's notifications (in the Chat section).
If you need to reach out to a specific person or a smaller group of people individually, the best way to do so is to create a new chat, which works exactly like text messaging (players will get notifications on their device). Just go to the Chat section and click the icon in the top right corner to start a new chat. From here, enter a name for the chat, then either type or select the members you wish to send a message to. If sending to only three people, for example, only those people will be able to see this chat and get notifications. If you prefer to contact someone another way (call or text), you can also pull everyone else's info (phone numbers) from the Player Info section or Settings -> Members Directory. Once confirming a new pair, please be sure to let us know in advance from the Weekly chat room after you have both RSVP'd YES so we can update the team list in the event description for that week.
Register with a sub within Team App - There will be a couple of additional players within Team App that are not regulars in the league, but may be able to fill-in from time to time. To contact them, go to Chat and start a new Chat message (top right corner). Type a name for the chat message (such as "Need a partner for this Saturday) and select the individual(s) you wish to contact. If you do get a sub confirmed, just make sure to let us know who it is that you are paired up with so we can again update the team list in the event description for that week. You can let us know in the weekly chat for that week.
Bring your own sub - If all else fails and you will be bringing your own sub (a non-regular league player who is not in Team App), we will just need their full name (first and last) ahead of time, as they will need to be entered into multiple locations (into the randomizer, stats, Team App, etc). In this case, please just send the full name (first and last) of the person that will be subbing from the Chat room for that week so we can update the team list. In this case, the team list in the description section will simply be updated with the name of the sub. If you bring a sub (any non-regular player) you will be paired up with them automatically for that week, as it wouldn't be fair to throw them into the random draw for obvious reasons. We will make a judgment call on returning players to join the random draw or not, based on tenure/skill level.
Each team will play a total of 16 games per league night. Games will be played to 21 points. Our league will follow all official KanJam rules (Click here), with the exception of the 40 foot line which has been eliminated. All players must have both feet behind the back edge of the goal when the disc is released.
Each team’s schedule of games is predetermined based on the total number of teams competing that night. After all teams have successfully completed their schedule of games, wins will be tallied to determine that week’s winner. The wins will also count toward the final standings. There may be prizes randomly given away on some league nights as well. Any non-KanJam equipment cannot be touched, and we please ask to keep the facilities clean. Players will be responsible for replacing any flying discs or goals that are broken intentionally as the result of any non KanJam play, fooling around, or temper flares.
Each team will be presented with a clipboard before the beginning of each week’s matches. This clipboard will contain a score sheet which must be kept accurately. Not only will you be in charge of keeping your win/loss record, but as a side item, you will be asked to track other categories as well: perfect games, Instant Wins, and number of overtime rounds. The score sheets will have these extra categories on them, so please make sure to mark everything accurately. All teams will turn in their sheet at the end of the night to determine that week’s winners. Perfect games will include games that extend into overtime.

At the conclusion of each night’s play, all score sheets will be collected. Teams will be ranked in order by the number of wins they accumulated during league matches. Final standings will be awarded on a point system. All teams will receive points for their placement for the week, depending on the number of teams that play that week. For example, let’s say there are 8 teams playing on a given night. First place will receive 8 points, second place will get 7 points, and so on. In addition, each team will also receive 1 point for every win. For example, let's say you came in 3rd place on a night of 8 teams playing and managed 12 wins. Your team would receive a total of 18 points for the night (6 points for placement and 12 points for wins).
If there is a tie for wins at the end of a league night, head-to-head record for the week is the first tie-breaker. If head-to-head cannot be determined (for example, a head-to-head with more than two teams tied with the same record), a tie-breaker “shootout” format is set up as follows: (only if time permits, otherwise both teams will be awarded the points.)
- Each team assumes their own court on the field of play.
- All teams in the tie-breaker are given three rounds to accumulate as many points as possible.
- If an Instant Win is thrown in a shootout, then it counts as 10 points.
- The team with the most points after three rounds wins.
Note: In the event of a tie which remains unbroken after three rounds of play, one additional round of throwing will take place. This one round will repeat if necessary and only long enough to break the tie.
All players will receive two "drop weeks"---this means if you miss a week or two, that won't hurt you in the final standings. Keep in mind, if you are present every week, you will have the opportunity to drop your worst two weeks at the end of the season. This only applies to points---all other stats will remain. Since this is a random draw league, stats and standings are individual based and a single player would be crowned as league champion at the end of the season.
