13-3 record
Eric Klavoon & Connor Matteson

1/6/2018 (Season 13)

First league night of 2018

After a long month off for the holidays, the Buffalo, NY KanJam league returned for Week 5 and hosted the first KanJam of 2018. To get things started, league T-shirts were handed out, and then the jamming was on! By the end of the night, Eric Klavoon & Connor Matteson reigned at #1 with a record of 13-3, followed closely by Jon Sandino & Kyle Merrifield in second place at 12-4. This marks back-to-back first place finishes for Eric, and already the third top finish this season for Connor. Austin Matteson & Matt Lafferty tied in record with Alex Reinecke & Evan Sardo for third place at 10-6; with a series split, they competed in a tiebreaker game, which was won by Austin & Matt to claim third place.

Only three wins separated the rest of the field. Kim Miller & Phil Schneider finished at 7-9 for 5th place, putting them ahead of a group of four teams that all tied at 6-10. In the tie, the top two etched wins in head-to-head play: Bob Greenauer & Jeff Clemo went a perfect 3-0 against the other teams to land 6th place, followed by Adam Williams & Tim Klavoon in 7th place with one win in head-to-head play. The remaining 6-10 teams tied their series against each other, setting up another tiebreaker game. The tiebreaker was won by Chad Cowell & TJ Burns, who shot a perfect game to beat Dana Misenheimer & Scott Silverman.

The top two teams led with perfect games thrown this week. Eric & Connor and Jon & Kyle each threw three perfect games. Other perfect games were thrown by Dana & Scott (2) and Adam & Tim (1).

Only one Instant Win was thrown, but it was a big one. Phil Schneider threw an Instant Win in game against Jon & Kyle, which was his league-leading third Instant Win of the season. The shot ultimately helped Kim M & Phil propel themselves ahead of the massive 4-way tie, and also thwarted Jon & Kyle's bid to catch Eric & Connor.

Oh yes, there were many overtime games played in Week 5. In fact, all 10 teams competed in at least five overtime games. Two of those teams, Bob & Jeff and Josh Greenauer & Kim Klavoon, each played in nine overtime games out of their 16 total games. Leading in overtime this week was Eric & Connor and Alex & Evan, each posting a 5-1 overtime record. Dana & Scott were involved in the three longest games of the night, competing in two games that went to five overtime rounds (against Jon & Kyle and Alex & Evan) and another game that went to four overtime rounds (against Bob & Jeff). Unfortunately for them, they lost all of these tough matches.

The weekly random prize drawing was won by Josh Greenauer, and he chose a $15 gift card to Darden (Olive Garden/Red Lobster/Longhorn Steakhouse).

In the overall standings, it is a combination of two World Champion teams in the top four - Matteson Brothers and Stallion Survivors. Connor Matteson remains in first place overall (108), holding a five point lead over both Jon Sandino and Eric Klavoon, who are now tied in points at 103, but Jon has the tiebreaker with more wins to hold the second place spot. Austin Matteson jumps up to #4 at 89 points, and Evan Sardo (86) is just three points behind him in 5th place.

The next league night is Saturday, January 13th, 2018 at 7:30 pm. The event is in Team App, and all players can RSVP to reserve their spot.
